Jack had his regular 9-month pediatrician visit this week. He's very healthy - no problems. His "stats" are: 21 lbs 13 oz, 30.5 inches tall, and 47 cm head circumference. Jack decided to play around on the floor of the doctor's office, dumping out the dozen or so kids books in the basket on the floor, and briefly looking at each one before moving onto the next. The pediatrician said it's OK for Jack to begin eating chicken/meat baby foods, but he cautioned that most babies dislike meat/chicken and joked that "all parents have 1 jar of meat baby food in the back of their cabinet, because they bought 2 jars, and their baby tried 1 jar and didn't like it."
I went to two different health food stores last weekend and bought every organic baby food product that Jack has not yet tried (we try to feed Jack only organic food) so that he can try some new "big boy" foods ("turkey dinner," "harvest vegetable dinner," etc). I ended up coming home with close to 75 jars of baby food, much to Mommy's dismay ("where are we going to put all of this?!?!"). Thus far, the only new food Jack seems to like is the chunky strawberry & banana blend. This is not surprising, since Jack loves eating little pieces of Mommy's banana for breakfast each morning - he probably eats 1/4 of a banana in little tiny bites!
Jack still LOVES to crawl all over the floor, exploring everything, and he thinks he's ready to walk RIGHT NOW. He pulls up to a standing position on anything and everything, but he doesn't have the balance to stay standing without holding onto something. Last weekend, I was sitting on the floor next to our couch, and Jack climbed into my lap, then climbed from my lap onto the couch (a first for him)!
Jack's latest skill/favorite game involves his elephant toy, where he drops toy balls into the top of the toy, and they come out the bottom of the toy. He is content to sit in front of that toy for quite a while just dropping the toy balls in the top and watching them come out the bottom.
Jack definitely seems to be happy and healthy now, and he seems to be over his ~month long spell where he was either sick or kinda crummy feeling all the time, not to mention teething. He now has his bottom two and top two front teeth (although the top teeth still aren't completely in place).-Daddy
